7 Simple Summer Self-Care Solutions

Summer is the perfect time to unplug from your computer and focus on improving your self-care! Shared below are a few simple solutions to keep you feeling energized, healthy, and cool all summer long.

Here Are 7 Simple Summer Self-Care Solutions:

1. Get Some Sunlight.

Firstly, be sure to use sun protection before heading outdoors. Even just 10 to 15 minutes of sunlight per day is beneficial in producing Vitamin D and helping to boost your immunity. Sunlight tends to promote feelings of happiness and comfort, which can help ease symptoms of depression. So, get outside for a while, maybe treat yourself to a mindful walk. Why not amplify these benefits by spending some of that time with nature? Maybe stroll among the trees for a bit of shade, paying attention to the sights and sounds that bring the presence of mind, a natural immune booster.

2. Bring on the Music:

Not only does music have the unique ability to change our mood, but it also gets our body humming along, encouraging movement. Why not make up a playlist of all those favorites that spark your best summer memories and spend those cooler evenings on the patio getting your groove on? A half-hour of dancing can burn anywhere from 200–400 calories, what a fun way to get your exercise in!

3. Escape with a Good Book:

Whether you prefer to explore far off lands, fight dragons, travel through time, or be swept up in a beautiful romance, there is nothing better than curling up on a breezy summer day with a great book. Taking this mental journey is a fantastic stress-reducer.

Doctors, scientists, and researchers have confirmed that reading is a stress-reducing activity that can lower your heart rate and blood pressure. It’s been proven to improve people’s memories, increase brain power, and even enhance empathic skills.

4. Spend Time with or Adopt a Pet:

Our pets are little furry stress-busting anti-depressants. They provide you with unconditional love and affection, not to mention hours of free entertainment. Having a companion to both rely on and take care of is a wonderful way to enhance our well-being. Research is showing that living with pets lowers blood pressure, lessens anxiety, boosts our immunity, and even decreases your risk of heart attack and stroke.

5. Practice Mindfulness Meditation:

Gift yourself some time to focus on the present. During this quiet time, try to do your best to remove any feelings of worry or regret, this adds further stress to your body. Instead appreciate the gifts that are offered to you at this moment, such as the miracle of your breath moving through your lungs. Enhance your self-awareness by focusing on the miracle that is you and the blessing that is the present. Meditation reduces stress and increases feelings of joy, serenity, and peace.

6. Be Sure to Stay Hydrated:

Losing just 2% of our body’s water can produce a noticeable effect on brain function, mood, concentration, and can even cause headaches. This kind of fluid loss can easily occur with daily activities, add in exercise and heat and it can quickly cause serious symptoms. Don’t wait until you are thirsty to drink water. Always keep a fresh glass, or reusable bottle nearby to take frequent sips from.

For optimal health, the average adult female needs approximately [2 liters] per day, with adult males needing [2.5 liters] per day.

7. Chill Out Before Bed:

Long sleepless summer nights can raise havoc on our well-being. Taking a few simple steps can help keep you cool. Pack away the polyester and choose cotton sheets and sleepwear instead! Cotton is breathable, promotes ventilation, and can wick away sweat, keeping us cooler. For better circulation of air, aiming a fan towards an open window will draw the warmer air outside and ensuring your ceiling fans are running counterclockwise will pull the hot air up and out. One of my personal favorites is to bring an ice pack to bed. Our feet are very sensitive to temperature so placing my feet on that cool gem instantly brings my temperature down.

I hope these summer self-care solutions will help you increase your well-being and help you to have a cool care-free summer.
