Great Barrier Reef off Cairns, Australia

Did you know that the Great Barrier Reef is over 20 miles offshore? I didn't. The day we went out was not the best day to snorkel with strong winds and rough seas. However, it was definitely better than the day before when it rained and snorkelers couldn't see anything. Still got a few decent photos. Compared to Roatan, Honduras, this was much rougher and much less clear. We saw fewer fish, but the coral was larger and more spectacular than that on Roatan, and you could see it was living coral, swaying in the water.
