    • This past Sunday, I was watching the butterflies in my Mom’s yard. She has so many lovely plants specifically to attract and feed the butterflies. When choosing plants for your yard, choose ones to help the wildlife. My 4 year old nephew is in town and loves butterflies. He went right up to a monarch, within about 10 inches. The monarch didn’t move. He simply said “Hello butterfly!” He repeated it several times. The butterfly never moved. He is such a butterfly whisperer. LOL! Also, we may not want bees in our yards, but we must have them to live…my sister has lavender she inherited from the former owners at her house. Bees love it! And, who doesn’t want the lovely smell of lavender around? Just a few suggestions to help us help nature, so nature can help us. Namaste!

      • I have lavender plants too, and I love them. I also have an anise hyssop plant that bees and butterflies love. We also try use companion plants in our garden areas; for instance we have corn and summer squash together. The corn provides a handy stalk for the squash to climb. I never knew about companion plants until we found a book about the subject at our local Rodale store. It’s really fascinating and most helpful!
(Had to come back and edit this because I forgot it was an anise hyssop.)
